Introduction

Hi all! My name is Pamela Williams-Páez and I earned my M.A. in Sociology from University of Washington. My research interests include race and ethnicity, deviance and criminology, culture, popular culture, social stratification and social movements. My writing in the discipline addresses the sociology of a metro bus and what we can learn from public space about society and ourselves. I have extensive travel experience and enjoy doing art, music and gardening in my spare time.

Studying Sociology is a lot of fun!  In this discipline we are able to see how things that seem ordinary reveal much about our social lives and ourselves. Everything that you are interested in can be related to Sociology. The Introduction to Women's Studies course will dive into historical and contemporary issues surrounding inequalities in society and how movers and shakers have struggled for social change. So much of our world is taken for granted. Sociology actively changes that, forces interrogation and a critical awareness. But there is so much more! Using your newly discovered sociological imagination everything you knew is open for scrutiny and the mundane becomes extraordinary. You will be able to explore how your life is shaped and influenced by social forces and how you can be an agent of positive social change!

Course Description
