PHRMTEC101 
Introduction to Pharmacy Technology | 3 units

Examines the history of pharmacy practice and explores the vital role of Pharmacy Technicians across healthcare settings. Content covered includes drug research, regulatory agencies, safety protocols, ethics, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and pharmacy law. This course emphasizes cultural competency, communication skills, and professionalism in diverse healthcare settings. Admission to the Pharmacy Technology Program is required.   


PHRMTEC102 
Pharmacy Calculations | 3 units

Provides students with the foundational numeric and calculation skills required to accurately dispense and prepare medications in the pharmacy setting. Students will learn prescription interpretation, dosage determination, and conversion between measurement systems. Additionally, the course covers advanced topics for compounding injectable medications, dilutions, alligations, and business-related calculations, preparing students for diverse roles in pharmacy settings. Admission to the Pharmacy Technology Program is required.


PHRMTEC103
Pharmacology & Therapeutics for Pharmacy Technicians | 3 units

Introduces pharmacological concepts, drug classifications, therapeutic uses, side effects, dosage forms, and routes of administration. Examines concepts in drug development, alternative therapies, medication errors, drug usage, basic anatomy and physiology, and regulatory oversight. Admission to the Pharmacy Technology Program is required.

Community Pharmacy Operations | 2.5 units

Provides an overview of community pharmacy operations, safety protocols, compounding standards, and the roles of pharmacy technicians. Covers prescription processing, medication dispensing, inventory management, insurance adjudication, and legal/ethical standards in a community pharmacy setting. Admission to the Pharmacy Technology Program is required


PHRMTEC104L
Community Pharmacy Lab | 1 unit

Provides students with the hands-on skills required for community pharmacy practice, such as medication management, prescription processing, creating patient instructions, conducting point-of-care testing, and preparation of non-sterile products such as syrups and ointments. An emphasis on professionalism, ethical conduct, and legal compliance. Admission to the Pharmacy Technology Program is required.

PHRMTEC106
Institutional Pharmacy Practice | 2 units

Examines pharmacy practices in institutional settings, focusing on the critical roles of pharmacists and technicians and regulatory standards. Content covered includes medication safety, drug distribution systems, medication reconciliation, the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) <797> and <800> for sterile preparation of intravenous products, and the management of hazardous materials. Admission to the Pharmacy Technology Program is required.


PHRMTEC106L
Institutional Pharmacy and Sterile Compounding Lab |
1 unit

Provides students with the hands-on application of sterile compounding using aseptic techniques in simulated pharmacy environments. This course emphasizes inpatient pharmacy practices, cultural competence, medication distribution, reconciliation, handling of hazardous drugs, and labeling final preparations according to the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) guidelines. Admission to the Pharmacy Technology Program is required.


PHRMTEC108
Pharmacy Clinical Experience I | 2.5 units

Provides entry-level, hands-on experience in various pharmacy settings under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Students will apply their classroom knowledge in real-world pharmacy settings and navigate the complexities of pharmacy operations while developing an understanding of diverse patient needs. Completion with a passing grade in PHRMTEC 101, 102, 103, 104, 104L, 106, and 106L required prior to enrollment. Must meet the clinical experience admission criteria.
