Courses
The physics department at college of the canyons offers a wide range of lower division undergraduate courses for the beginning student who has never encountered a college science class to the more advanced science majors preparing to transfer to a four-year institution. The standard range of classical physics topics are covered in our course sequences. A single grade is assigned for each lecture and accompanying laboratory component. The various physics courses offered and their respective descriptions are found below.
PHYSIC 101 INTRODUCTORY PHYSICS
Units: 4.00 - UC:CSU 72.00 hours lecture
Prerequisite: MATH-070.
Explores Physics in a more conceptual and less mathematical approach. Similar in content to PHYSIC-102 without the laboratory component. This is a one-semester survey course introducing the topics of classical and modern physics, including physical principles concerning motion, gravity, heat, light, waves, electricity, magnetism, the atom, the nucleus, relativity, and quantum mechanics. Includes hands-on experiences and laboratory experiments.
UC credit limitation: No credit for PHYSIC-101 if taken after PHYSIC-102, PHYSIC-110 or PHYSIC-220.
Offered during fall, spring semesters and summer and winter sessions
