Faculty Seniority and Academic Ranking
Academic ranking is determined by years of service as a tenure-track contract faculty.
Assistant Professor: first and second full academic year
Associate Professor: third through sixth full academic year
Professor: seventh full academic year and thereafter
Educational Administrators Seniority and Retreat Rights
Educational administrators have retreat rights to the classroom. However, educational
administrators who have not taught and achieved tenure at COC will have to go through
the tenure process if they decide to teach full-time. NOTE: Administrators hired before 1990 were legally entitled to a tenured faculty status
after two years of employment.
