Vice President's Message

Welcome to College of the Canyons’ Canyon Country Campus.  Opened in August 2007, the Canyon Country Campus (CCC) is situated on a 70-acre hillside high-desert property at 17200 Sierra Highway, 9.8 miles east of the District’s Valencia Campus. The mission of the campus is to provide access to quality instructional programs, supportive student services, and meaningful community partnerships in the Santa Clarita Community College District's sizeable service area.  Although COVID-19 restrictions have limited the amount of on-campus instruction as of the start of the Fall 2021 semester, the campus is nonetheless offering a number of in-person classes and facilitating instruction and support services that help our students achieve their academic goals.

CCC is a comprehensive campus, providing a full array of services befitting a site that is larger than several small college districts in California. Since 2007, more than 65,000 different students have earned course credit here and more than 7,500 classes have been offered on-site. The campus has expanded access to higher education in the Santa Clarita Valley with approximately eighteen associate degree offerings and thirteen certificate programs that can be completed on site. Additional information is available on the class schedule page.  The campus generally offers more than 100 classes each semester in high-demand evening, weekend, hybrid, or accelerated formats. Campus enrollment is typically more than 4,000 students per semester, with an average of 170 faculty teaching more than 270 total classes in 40 disciplines each semester.  During COVID-19 restrictions, in-person instruction has been limited, although the main COC website continues to provide information about current conditions and class offerings.

Campus facilities feature 58 smart classrooms, which includes a variety of laboratory classrooms, computer labs, large lecture, and traditional classrooms. The 15,000 sq. ft. Applied Technology Education Center provides instruction in several career technical education programs such as Automotive, Construction, and Water Technologies.  The campus houses many programs and services, including a library, tutoring center, student study lounge, and many student support services such as counseling, financial aid, admissions and records, student business office, and student health center.  It is remarkable how many programs and services are offered in predominantly modular spaces on this campus and it demonstrates the current and future need for growth of this campus.

Construction and facilities improvements continue at the Canyon Country Campus.  A state-of-the-art 55,000 sq. ft. Science Building opened in Fall 2021, featuring much needed science laboratory and classroom space.  A second 55,000 sq. ft. Student Services & Learning Resource Center is under construction and will expand student support resources, classroms, workshops, and meeting spaces when it is completed.  We look forward to the development of additional permanent classrooms and laboratories at CCC.

CCC seeks to provide quality instruction, supportive and personalized student services, and an easy-to-navigate facility. Students benefit from customized and accelerated pathways for academic completion, with courses provided in a wide variety of formats to service student and community needs.  Within the context of guided pathways planning, the Canyon Country Campus will emphasize associate degree and certificate pathways that can be completed on-site, as well as increased accelerated class offerings to serve the needs of working, part-time, and evening students as well as those seeking quicker completion.  The program mapper tool on the main COC website is a particularly helpful resource for students.

The Canyon Country Campus has a long tradition of hosting popular community events, including a vibrant "Science Talks" series that includes the biannual community Star Parties, Garden Walks, and a variety of engaging programing for discipline-expert faculty and staff.  Campus life and engagement is also supported by creative ASG student officers who also provide thoughtful student programming.  The campus is proud to be used as a laboratory for innovation, showcasing campus offerings and serving the community.  For the latest information about events, check out the events webpage.
