Articulation

What is Articulation?

Articulation is the process of creating formal agreements that identify which courses from College of the Canyons (COC) are comparable to, or accepted in place of, courses at another college or university. The main goal of articulation is to help students transfer smoothly from COC to a four-year university by ensuring that completed coursework meets lower-division requirements after transfer.

What is an Articulation Agreement?

An articulation agreement is a formal agreement between College of the Canyons and a four-year college or university that specifies how COC courses transfer to meet general education, major, or elective requirements.

COC maintains articulation agreements with:

  • California State University (CSU) campuses

  • University of California (UC) campuses

  • Private and out-of-state universities

These agreements help you plan your coursework efficiently and avoid taking duplicate or unnecessary classes after transfer.

What is C-ID (Course Identification Numbering System)?

The C-ID system provides a statewide numbering system that helps identify comparable courses across California’s community colleges.

A C-ID number (for example, C-ID ENGL 100) is assigned to courses that have been reviewed and approved as equivalent in content and rigor across the state.

  • If a COC course has a C-ID designation, it means that course is comparable to courses with the same C-ID number at other California Community Colleges.

  • C-ID courses are often used as part of Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) and align with CSU and UC lower-division major preparation requirements.

You can explore C-ID course approvals and see how they align with your transfer major at: www.c-id.net

How to View COC Articulation Agreements

You can view articulation agreements and transfer credit information for COC courses on:

  • ASSIST.org – The official statewide database showing how COC courses transfer to CSU and UC campuses.

  • Individual college and university websites for private and out-of-state transfer guides.

If your desired university or program isn’t listed, meet with a COC counselor for help developing a personalized education plan.

Note: Courses listed as comparable in articulation agreements, C-ID, or transfer guides reflect how COC courses are accepted by other institutions. If you’re using courses from other colleges toward a COC associate degree, certificate, or GE pattern (CSU GE, IGETC, or Cal-GETC), they’ll need to be reviewed according to COC degree and transfer requirements.
