California State University (CSU)

Transfer Requirements

 First Step

Start completing “The Golden Four” as early as possible.

You must complete one course in each of the following four areas:

1. Cal-GETC Area 1A: English Composition

2. Cal-GETC Area 1B: Critical Thinking and Composition

3. Cal-GETC Area 1C: Oral Communication

4. Cal-GETC Area 2: Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning

 Second Step

Complete 60 CSU transferable semester units with a minimum 2.0 grade point average. The GPA for admission can be significantly higher because of the major, campus, and/or applicant pool.

 Third Step

Complete coursework in the major along with your general education (GE) requirements. Look at www.assist.org(opens in new window) for specific major requirements. To satisfy GE, you have different options: Cal-GETC, IGETC, or CSU GE (not required for admissions to most CSU campuses). Meet with a counselor to discuss next steps in your journey.

 Fourth Step

Apply on time! All California State Universities begin accepting applications October 1 for the following Fall. Some campuses are open for transfer in Spring. Some CSUs accept Spring applicants, but you should check with a counselor or click the link.
