Join us for Parent Orientation, an introduction to our campus, values, and the support systems in place to help your student thrive. This session will give you an overview of what your student can expect academically and socially, highlight key resources and services, and share ways you can stay informed and involved. We’re excited to welcome your family into our community and help you support your student’s journey with confidence.

Introduction to Transfer 

Learn the fundamentals of transferring from a California community college to a four-year university. This workshop covers transfer requirements, the differences between CSU, UC, and private universities, choosing a transfer destination, and important timelines to help you plan your transfer journey.

Boost Your Success: How Tutoring Can Help You Thrive

Discover how tutoring can be a game-changer in your college experience. In this session, The Learning Center (TLC) will share how academic support can strengthen your understanding of course material, improve study habits, and build confidence. Learn how to access free tutoring services, what to expect from a session, and how to make the most of your time with a tutor. Whether you’re aiming to catch up or stay ahead, tutoring can help you reach your academic goals.

Thriving Online: How to be a Successful Online Student

Online classes offer flexibility—but also require focus, discipline, and the right strategies. In this session, you’ll learn how to stay organized, manage your time, actively participate, and communicate effectively in a virtual environment. Whether you’re new to online learning or looking to improve, this presentation will give you practical tools to stay motivated, avoid common pitfalls, and succeed in your online courses.

Faculty Insights: Succeeding in the College Classroom

Join a panel of COC faculty members for an inside look at what it takes to succeed in college-level courses. Faculty from the various academic schools will share their expectations around participation, communication, time management, and academic integrity. You’ll gain valuable tips on how to build strong relationships with instructors, stay engaged, and take ownership of your learning. Come with questions and leave with a clearer understanding of how to thrive in the classroom.

Learn about certificates, associate degrees, transfer pathways, first-semester expectations, and the courses that can help you reach your educational goals. By the end of the workshop, you'll work with a counselor to create your first-semester course plan.
