Credit for Prior Learning
Are you interested in receiving college credit for past work experience?
Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) is college credit awarded for validated college-level skills and knowledge gained outside of a college classroom. Student's knowledge and skills might be gained through experiences such as:
- Standardized Exams
- Credit by Examination
- Noncredit Mirroring or Professional Development Learning
- Military CPL
- Student-created Portfolio
- Industry Recognized Credentials/Documentation
- Work-Based Learning
- State/Federal Government Training
- Validated volunteer and civic activities (e.g. Peace Corps)
The CPL definition does not include knowledge and skills already assessed and awarded credit through formal education at regionally accredited in-state and out-of-state institutions.
Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) may be awarded for prior experience or prior learning only for individually identified courses with subject matter similar to that of the individual's prior learning, and only for a course listed in the catalog of the community college.
