  • The Mild-Moderate Education Specialist Credential program is designed for those interested in teaching and advocating for learners with mild/moderate special educational needs, in particular, but not exclusive to students with specific learning disabilities, emotional and or behavioral disorders, mild intellectual and or developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, traumatic brain injury, other health impairments, and those K-12 learners who are struggling in school.

    Candidates develop skills in: collaboration, promoting social justice, community engagement, making professional contributions to the field, professional writing and oral communication skills
    Authentic hands-on, supervised learning and support

    Mild-Moderate Education Specialist Credential candidates receive a complete range of instruction and support in instructing learners with mild-moderate disabilities.

     Upon completion of the Education Specialist Preliminary Credential, candidates have five years to clear the Clear Education Specialist Credential

  • Application: Apply online at www.laverne.edu/apply. Application fee is $50. (If you attend an info session, the fee is waived.) Application deadlines: one week prior to the start of each term.
     Financial Aid: Submit the FAFSA online www.fafsa.gov
     Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with 2.8 or above GPA
     Passing score on admissions interview
     Passing score on CBEST
     Passing score on CSET Multiple Subject
     Current TB clearance with past two years
     Certificate of Clearance through the CCTC
     Health Education/Nutrition/Drug Prevention/Sexually Transmitted Disease Course OR passing score on DSST exam in Health and Human Development
     US Constitution course or approved college level exam
     Public speaking course of public communication competence
     Computers for Educators – approved course
     State of Purpose
     Three current letters of recommendation on school or business letterhead
     Internet access capability
