The Master of Science in Special Education Studies
is designed for those interested in teaching,
advocating, and working with individuals with
mild/moderate disabilities.
Persons applying to this master’s degree need not
possess a teaching credential.
Within the master’s degree are specializations that
will result in added authorizations for persons
possessing Education Specialist Teaching
Credentials, or certifications for those who do not
possess the required California Credential.

Admissions Requirements

  • Schedule an appointment with Associate Director of Student Recruitment (ADR) (listed below).
  • Application: Apply with ADR, or an information session, or online at www.laverne.edu/apply.
  • Application fee is $50. (If you apply at an info session, the fee is waived)
  • Application deadlines: one week prior to the start of each term.
  • Financial Aid: Submit the FAFSA online www.fafsa.gov
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with approved GPA
  • Personal Interview
  • Statement of purpose
  • Writing Competency Assessment
  • Current TB Clearance with the past 2 years
  • Current fingerprint clearance with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing

Duration 2 to 2 1/2 years
Costs Graduate Tuition: $680 per unit Academic Service Fee: $30 per class Application Fee: $50 (waived if you attend an Information Session)
Format Accelerated 8 week terms; 5 terms per year; classes meet one evening per week, and every other Saturday. Option to take 1 or 2 courses/term. 1 course = half‐time, 2 courses = full‐time
