Subject: Support opportunities for English 101 students.
Message:
Dear [Student Name]:
I have really enjoyed having you in my class these past few weeks. My goal is to help you succeed in my class by improving your writing skills. After reading your writing diagnostic, I noticed that you were having some difficulty in several areas, and I think you could benefit from some extra help, beyond what I can offer you in this class alone. Luckily, COC offers a free, 1.5 hours/week noncredit class for students who may need this extra support. This class (English 001: Essential Reading & Writing I.), taken alongside our English class, will help you with your reading comprehension, thesis and paragraph construction, and grammar. Last semester, students who enrolled in the noncredit class did significantly better than those who were recommended but opted not to take the class. We really encourage you to take this valuable class; the English Department believes in you and is dedicated to your success.
An English faculty member will reach out to you shortly to answer any questions, provide assistance, and discuss additional options.
To register for the NC.ENGL-001 Course: In myCanyons, when searching for sections, select Fall 2020 from the term and Noncredit English from the subject dropdown.
Sincerely,
[Referring Instructor]

[Instructor Name],
The Canyons Connects (Starfish) [Survey Title] will be opening shortly, and you will see the deployment email when it opens the morning of 5/1/2014 9:00 AM PDT . It is a fast and efficient way to engage campus support and positively reinforce your students.
A link will be provided in the deployment email with details, a quick link survey and a tutorial video produced by our faculty liaisons if you need a hand getting started.
Progress surveys provide you the opportunity to quickly deliver 4 types of feedback:
In addition to raising a flag, you have the ability to make additional referrals through the "My Students" tab, if the student continues having difficulty in the class or they can benefit from one of the referral services. Please include as much detail as possible.
Your responses will help us determine which students may be struggling and could benefit from assistance. The survey will be available until 5/10/2014 9:00 AM PDT . Your flags will help us identify if there may be an overall pattern of concern that extends beyond your classroom. This is why your participation is so critical.
Thank you for your participation! We appreciate your dedication to student success.
