Dual Enrollment

Welcome to the College of the Canyons Dual Enrollment Program.  The Dual Enrollment Program helps high school students to get a jump start on college by earning college and high school credit at no cost. In addition to saving time and money, dual enrollment courses help prepare students for the rigors of college level studies. 

What is Dual Enrollment?

Through our partnership with the William S. Hart Union High School District, College of the Canyons offers courses at participating high schools that allow qualified students to earn college and high school credit while meeting high school graduation requirements.  Dual enrollment courses are offered during the regular high school day, currently during period 1 or period 7 and are restricted to high school juniors and seniors, with the exception of Castaic High School's iCAN Academy (Board Policy 5010). Dual enrollment students may not enroll in more than 15.0 units per semester. 

  • ​Earn college credit toward a degree, certificate and/or transfer credit to a four-year college/university while attending high school.
  • Explore career fields and pathways prior to college.
  • Build self confidence in college level rigor and eases the transition from high school to college.
  • Save money and tuition on textbooks - this program is completely FREE!

Dual Enrollment Student Checklist

Students are encouraged to complete the below steps in the order they appear.

To help you stay on track, we recommend completing the following steps by:

Dual Enrollment courses begin on Monday, August 17.

    • Confirm your interest in participating in the Dual Enrollment Program by completing the form
    • An Early College Program team member will connect with you to begin the admission process

      Please note, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fall semester dual enrollment classes will be taught via Distance Learning (not 100% online). To understand the difference between Distance Learning and Online classes, please click here.

  • Applying is easy and FREE! Complete and submit the California Community College application using the CCCApply website.

    Within 24-48 hours of submitting your application, you will receive an Admissions Acceptance email from earlycollege@canyons.edu with instructions on how to complete the remaining steps.

    Important Information:

    • The application is best viewed on a desktop or laptop computer, not your phone.
    • Utilize Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox web browsers. Do not use Safari.


    First time applying?

    You will need to create a CCCApply account before starting your College of the Canyons application. Keep your CCCApply username and password in a safe place.  After creating your CCCApply account, you are ready to apply to College of the Canyons.

  • Once you have applied and received the college's "Admissions Acceptance" instruction email, you are ready to set up your student account in My Canyons.

    How to set up your My Canyons account:

    Click on the My Canyons logo  at the top of this webpage then -  

    1. Click on Students.
    2. Click on Create an Account/Reset your Login and Password.
    3. Enter the information needed on the screen. You will need your first name, last name, SSN or student ID number, date of birth, and then create a password.
    4. The username and password will be returned to the screen. Please print that page, write it down, or take a picture to have the information for the future.


    Already have a My Canyons account, and need to reactivate it?

    • If you remember your username and password, you can reactivate your account now.
    • If you do not remember your username and password, select "Student", and then select "Create an Account/Reset Your Login and Password"and reset your My Canyons account.

  • The Online Orientation is designed to provide you with information about college procedures, programs, support services and polices. Please give yourself about 30 minutes of quiet time to complete this step.

    Important Information:

    • This is a one- time orientation.
    • The orientation is best viewed on a desktop or laptop computer, not your phone.
    • Utilize Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox web browsers. Do not use Safari.
    • You must use your COC student ID number. Do not mistake this number for your CCC apply number, a confirmation number or your high school student ID number.

    Online Orientation

  • You will receive a Dual Enrollment Special Admission Form via email after submitting the Dual Enrollment Interest Form.

    You will need to complete the form, both front and back, including signatures from both the student and parent/guardian.  Early College Program will facilitate collecting signatures from your high school counselor and principal on your behalf.

    Submit the Dual Enrollment Special Admission Form before August 11 by:

    • Emailing the completed form to earlycollege@canyons.eduRemember to send the front and back side of the form. Please include “Dual Enrollment and your name” in the subject line.
    • Dropping off in the Document Drop Box located on the COC Valencia Campus in the Campus Circle (Main entrance off Rockwell Canyon Road).  Please place your Dual Enrollment Special Admission Form in an envelope marked Admissions & Records – Dual Enrollment Program.


    While campuses are closed and staff are temporarily working remotely, the college is accepting Dual Enrollment Special Admission Forms with electronic signatures by the student and parent/guardian.

  • Early College Program and Admissions & Records will register students into the dual enrollment courses upon completion of the admission process.

    Students are encouraged to complete the admission process prior to August 11.  Students will receive an enrollment confirmation email from earlycollege@canyons.edu once registration is completed.

    Course textbooks and/or materials will be issued to students through their high school library prior to the start of the semester. Additional details will be shared with students as they become available from the William S. Hart Union School District.

    For all FALL 2020 courses, it is very important that you read the instructor’s ORIENTATION LETTER for each class you register for, in order to be aware of the type of class you're in. Read your Instructor's orientation letter for information about their class, such as their required textbooks(s), instructional materials, important dates, proctored exams, or other course requirements.

    You may find yourself using Canvas for the first time.  Explore our Canvas Guides to learn how to navigate and be successful in your online classroom.

    Visit the Online Student Support page to find a list of available student resources and software to help with the transition to online learning.

  • If you have a disability, IEP and/or 504, you may be eligible for accommodations through our Disabled Students Program & Services (DSPS) office.  It is the student’s responsibility to contact DSPS prior to the start of the semester for evaluation and approval of eligible and appropriate accommodations to a college course. 

    Students seeking services through DSPS will need to:

    • Complete and submit the DSPS Application for Services
    • Submit a current IEP/Psycho Ed Report
    • Schedule an appointment with DSPS counselor to review accommodations

    Note: Students are required to submit a college application prior to submitting documentation to DSPS.
