Harmonize
Harmonize is a discussion & collaboration tool that integrates with Canvas to improve student engagement in your online discussions. College of the Canyons is piloting Harmonize in Canvas for the Fall '23 semester. Watch this quick introduction about Harmonize video to learn about the different features you can use in Canvas to:
- Author rich content by using AI tools to write a better discussion prompt
- Configure milestones (aka multiple due dates) to encourage more frequent and thoughtful participation by adding multiple due dates to Discussions.
- Auto grade student participation
- Facilitate richer and more inclusive discussions that incorporate images, video, and annotations.
- Easily evaluate student performance and provide substantive feedback
- Make it easier for students to engage in discussions by using a more modern and intuitive interface that is similar to the social media apps they're used to.
- Monitor for students who may need help
- Streamline grading with dashboards that show student activity, auto-grading for student participation, and the ability to automatically pass grades/feedback back to Canvas
- Use Harmonize's integration with Turnitin to utomatically check every Discussion post for plagiarism.

Harmonize is available in your Canvas course as an "external tool", which can be used in an assignment. To set up a graded Graded Harmonize Discussion in Canvas (similar steps for creating a Harmonize Poll, or PDF Annotation):
- Click on Assignments
- Click + Assignment
- Give it a title, instructions, select point value, etc.
- Under 'Submission Type,' select "External Tool"
- Select Harmonize Assignment, click Discussion, and click Select.
- Give a due date, save & publish.
