Course Description

The course material encompasses the discovery of many artistic and cultural movements that pertain to the geographic areas of India, China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. ART 116 is an introduction to various artworks, historical time periods, and visual arts terminology. This course will also provide you with the skills to analyze and interpret works of art.

What to Expect in this Course

  • The Canvas course site will be available on the first day of the semester.
  • Course content will consist of readings, lectures, discussions, PowerPoint presentations, and video clips. Assignments will be submitted/posted via Canvas.
  • We will spend a great deal of time analyzing and writing about art. Each student will be expected to communicate information about works of art through visual and contextual analysis. Such information may include the time and place a particular artwork was created, artist identification, use of materials and techniques, and what the work of art means.
