Introduction
Welcome to Drawing 2 or 3! You should have completed Drawing 1 or at least 2D Design as you will be expected to use your knowledge from those classes in these advanced drawing classes. This is a life drawing class. That means that as much as possible you will draw from live human beings. When it isn’t possible you will draw from live, nude models off a website of my choosing. This website is made for artists practicing figure drawing and the models are moving! I think you will enjoy this class and you will learn things even though drawing the human body can be challenging. This is a college level course and will involve critical thinking and problem solving. Art is problem solving! Every assignment will be some new problem or problems you will find creative solutions to. Don't worry if you can't even draw a stick figure because you don’t.Welcome to Drawing 2 or 3! Course Description
Drawing the human figure from live and online models as well as pets. Emphasizes structure, proportion, form and composition through use of linear and tonal concepts. Different media will be explored including, charcoal, Conte, pencil, pen and ink.
What to Expect in this Course
Access: You must have daily access to a computer with a reliable online connection. You will also need a word processing program such as Microsoft Word.
Student email: Your primary form of contact will be your Canyons email address
Canvas: We will be using Canvas for class information, to receive and turn in assignments and to participate in forum discussions with classmates. If you have never used Canvas or have not taken an online course, consider watching some of the Canvas video tutorials.
Your Canvas course site will be available the morning of the first day of class.

Requirements: You must have a computer with a working camera and mike for this is a VISUAL arts class. You must be live during class time with your mike muted. No black screens or photos of you if you want to receive your participation credit for the day. If you do not have a computer with a working camera and mike you can check it out from the college at no charge but it is up to you to do so. If you need help learning how to use Zoom go to the campus home page and click on online education. You will find help there.

Back up all of your work on the computer. I am not responsible for computer or printer malfunctions or loss of electricity. Save all of your graded work until your grade for this class is posted to your record

Types of Assessments
Time Management
Late assignments will not be accepted–don’t ask me to make an exception for you.
Unfinished work for projects will result in a zero. I will not imagine how you intended it to look. After you upload your projects to Canvas and see the confetti that signals a successful upload, go back to your grades and double check that the assignment did upload. Missing assignments because of a glitch art still missing assignments. Plan for those unforeseen problems by starting on your assignments early–I will gladly accept any assignment early.
Grading Scale
I strongly suggest that all students check their grade progress regularly during the semester. A=100-90 B=89-80 C=79-70 D=69-65 F= 64 and below
Everything is due on the date specified unless stated otherwise.

You will be purchasing supplies in lieu of a textbook. There is a list of supplies you will be given the first day of class that are required in lieu of a textbook. You must have or purchase required supplies by second class in order to take this course.

Non Progress/Attendance in Class
If you are not making progress in this class you will need to drop yourself in MyCanyons. Check the drop and withdrawal deadlines on the course calendar and make sure you drop yourself before the deadline.
In the online environment failing to meet deadlines represents an absence from class.
As per college policy I can also drop you for failing to attend class during the drop period.

Academic Dishonesty
Students are expected to do their own work as assigned. At College of the Canyons, we believe that academic integrity and honesty are some of the most important qualities college students need to develop and maintain. To facilitate a culture of academic integrity, College of the Canyons has defined plagiarism and academic dishonesty. Due process procedures have been established when plagiarism or academic dishonesty is suspected.
At COC, we define plagiarism as follows: Plagiarism is the submission of someone else’s work or ideas as one’s own, without adequate attribution. When a student submits work for a class assignment that includes the words, ideas or data of others, without acknowledging the source of the information through complete, accurate, and specific references, plagiarism is involved. This may include dual submissions of a similar work for credit for more than one class, without the current instructor’s knowledge and approval.
To be specific, below are some of the situations that will be considered plagiarism at COC:
Use information from any source, online or in print, in one’s own writing without acknowledging the source in the content and in the reference page of the assignment;
Simply list the sources in the reference page, without parenthetical citations in the body of the essay;
Take more than one printed line of words consecutively from the source without putting quotation marks around them, even though the student has put the author’s name in the parentheses or in the reference page;
Turn in work done for other classes, regardless how large or small the assignment may be, without the current instructor’s approval, this is considered “self-plagiarism,” which is a form of academic dishonesty; or, Turn in work by another student, even by accident.
Cases of alleged academic dishonesty, such as plagiarism or cheating, will be referred to the Dean of Student Services for investigation.
CANVAS & Student Accountability Online
Use of online programs such as CANVAS is strictly limited to the students who are enrolled in that particular course. Individual login information is provided to each student and all activity within an online course is monitored and recorded. To insure the highest level of integrity of student data, user login and password information must never be shared. It is your responsibility as a student to take every measure possible to safeguard your individual login information and never allow other persons (whether a student or not) to have access to this information. Each student must submit his or her own work. Sharing login information or submitting work under another user’s identification is a violation of College policy and may result in a formal report of the incident to the Dean of Students. If you feel another person has obtained your unique login information or has accessed your account, contact me and the Distance Learning technology support team immediately.

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.
Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.
You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.
Veterans Resource Center
