Introduction

Welcome to our class. My name is Professor Chung. I look forward to learning with you this semester at College of the Canyons.

 

For online courses- The course will be available on COC’s Canvas course management system at 7:00 AM beginning on the first day of the course.

Be sure to log in and post to the Introduction Roll Call Discussion Board by the listed deadline, otherwise, you will be dropped from this course.

 

For face to face (in person) or hybrid courses- The first day of class will be Roll Call.  Per college policy, you will be dropped if you are not present.

 

Course Description

Introduces the field of business administration, examining how U.S. and global business policies and practices are affected by the interaction of economic systems, culture, legal, political, and financial institutions, including economic systems, leadership, entrepreneurship, strategic management, organizational structure and communication, marketing, accounting, finance, stock market, operations, information technology, human resources, organized labor, ethics, social responsibility, sustainability, and globalization.

What to Expect in this Course

You will be expected to read the chapter(s) prior to the week of the discussion and assignments for the specific chapter(s). You will be required to participate on a weekly basis.

Types of Assessments

5 week and 8 week courses- There will be one (1) exam consisting of multiple-choice questions.

16 week courses- There will be three (3) exams consisting of multiple choice questions.

ISBN: 8220123160913 (this is the ebook and Mylab version)

 

An access code for MyLab will be required for online assessment study module, homework assignments, and chapter quizzes. Both the textbook and the MyLab access code are available together at the COC Bookstore. Please contact the COC bookstore at (661-362-3255) or at the COC Bookstore website.

Can you choose to purchase it elsewhere?  Yes, just make sure it comes with the access code

Can you purchase it through our Canvas course?  Yes, this is the preferred method.  I will provide instructions on how you can do this in the Welcome Module.  

Other Relevant Course Information

There will be a team project that includes a written paper.

Canvas

This course can be accessed on the first day of class via Canvas at https://coc.instructure.com. Log into Canvas using your CanyonsID single sign-on:

  • CanyonsID Username is your COC student email address (Ex: username@my.canyons.edu)
  • CanyonsID Password is your COC student email password

Online Counseling

The Counseling Department offers appointments online. You can schedule an appointment by visiting the Online Counseling website. Counselors can help you map out a plan to reach your educational goals as well as advise you on course selection and registration.

Management of Stress and Mental Health

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). The phone number is 661-362-3259 that you can call 24/7. You can also e mail for an appointment at StudentHealthCenter@canyons.edu. At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.

Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.

Veterans Resource Center

The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
