Welcome to our class. My name is Professor Isssa. I look forward to working with you this semester at College of the Canyons.

The course will be available on COC’s Canvas course management system at 7:00 AM beginning on the first day of the course.

For Hybrid courses- you must be present in the first face to face course for Roll Call purposes, otherwise, you will be dropped from this course.

Course Description

This course focuses on the fundamental functions of modern management in a changing world with an emphasis on planning, leading, organizing, and control. Substantive areas include leadership in management, motivation, communication, cultural diversity, team decision‐making, management by objectives, organizational environment, sustainability, planning and strategic management, control process, organizational structure, and managing organizational change.

What to Expect in this Course

You will be expected to read the chapter(s) prior to the week of the discussion and assignments for the specific chapter(s). You will be required to participate on a weekly basis.

There will be one exam for this class consisting of multiple-choice questions

Textbook Information

The COC Bookstore has only one option available at this time.  However, feel free to go online to find the best option for you as long as it is:

10th edition of Griffin’s  “Fundamentals of Management”

Bookstore option:  CENGAGE UNLIMITED – Includes e-Textbook + MindTap web access code (NO PHYSICAL TEXT WITH THIS OPTION) covers ALL CENGAGE textbooks purchased by the student for the semester (Some other courses at COC that use Cengage Publisher are Business Law, Business Bookkeeping, some CAWT classes, Spanish classes, etc.). NOTE: For many students, the Cengage Unlimited price may be the cheapest option, but it all depends on the student. (ISBN: 9780357700006) Please note that MindTap is not required for this course, however, it is included in the COC bookstore options. If you purchase the book elsewhere, you do not need to buy MindTap. Be sure to purchase the 10th edition.

The Counseling Department offers appointments online. You can schedule an appointment by visiting the Online Counseling website. Counselors can help you map out a plan to reach your educational goals as well as advise you on course selection and registration.

Management of Stress and Mental Health

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.

Veterans Resource Center

The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
