Introduction
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this class will be taught in OnlineLive format. Students are expected to regularly attend the "live" lectures I give over Zoom during the scheduled class meetings.
Course Description
Introduction to computer architecture, assembly language programming, system software and computer applications. Number systems and data representation. Internal organization of a computer. Primitive instructions and operations.
What to Expect in this Course
Students are expected to regularly attend the "live" lectures I give over Zoom during scheduled class meetings.
In those class meetings where a Quiz is scheduled, students will be given 30 minutes from the start of the Zoom session to complete the quiz. After 30 minutes have elapsed, I will begin my "live" Zoom lecture.
In those class meetings where an Exam is scheduled, students will be given the entire class session on Zoom to complete the Exam.
Attendance is mandatory and will be taken at the beginning of each Zoom class session.
Types of Assessments
4 Programming Quizzes, 1 Midterm Exam, 1 Final Exam.

In order to work on the programming exercises given throughout the course, you must have access to a computer which is capable of running Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Community or higher. You can download and install the latest version of Visual Studio Community from:

If you have a Mac computer, you will want to download and install Xcode from the Apple Store.

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

Veterans Resource Center
The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
