Welcome to Counseling 150 Student Success! This is an 8-week, online and online live course. This course will help you practice concepts such as developing a growth mindset, study skills like reading and taking exams at the college level, and having the belief that you are able to accomplish all of your goals. All class content will be found via Canvas. You are responsible to check in every Monday to see the assignments, goals, and expectations for each week.
This course is designed to integrate personal growth, critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving and academic success. The course introduces the student to the benefits of higher education, educational planning, goal setting and career choices. The student is guided through the process of self-discovery which emphasizes the importance of self-awareness, self-responsibility and self-empowerment.
What to Expect in this Course
During this semester, you will be completing the following activities:
- Student-lead discussion posts: You will interact through online discussions with classmates each week related to the current unit being discussed.
- Individual homework assignments covering course material, handouts, online research, and assessments.
- Weekly quizzes based on material covered during the week or on a particular subject area.
- Quizzes will be 10 points each
We will be using Canvas as our online classroom and you will be expected to log into Canvas various times each week in order to keep up with discussion boards and weekly assignments. I will be posting announcements, assignments, and discussion items that you will be expected to participate in, at the beginning of each week and must be completed by the posted due dates. You can access Canvas through @ https://coc.instructure.com/ and search for the “Counseling 150” box.
Textbook Information / Link to ZTC Textbook
We will be using Open Educational Resources (OER) materials for this course, which is a free digital textbook. A digital copy will be listed in Canvas along with a hard copy on reserve at the Valencia and Canyon Country Libraries. If you wish to purchase the Counseling 150 OER text, you will be able to do so in the bookstore for about $10.

Your password does not reset to “student” each semester.

The best way to reach me is through email. Be sure to include COUNS 150 in the subject line and include your name in the message. This helps me recognize you as my student. During Monday through Friday I will respond within 48 hours. It could take up to 72 hours during weekends and holidays.
