Introduction

Hello Student,

My name is Anthony Galvan and I will be your instructor for this semester. I have my Bachelors degree in Native American Studies and History of Latin America from UC Riverside. I received my Masters Degree in Humanities from Mount St. Mary's University in Los Angeles. Hopefully by the end of this course you will have a better understanding of various women in US History.

You must complete the first assignment by 11:59 PST on the first day of the semester otherwise you will be dropped from the course. More details will be sent out to you through email and Announcements on Canvas.

Welcome to History 120, in this course you will learn the political, economic, and intellectual history of women in the development of the United States from the early Colonial Era to the present day, including their challenges and contributions.

Student Learning Outcomes are as follows:

  • Evaluate the political, economic, intellectual and social role of women in the history of the United States.
  • Appraise women's' contributions to American culture and examine the problems and obstacles they have experienced and overcome in the course of U.S. development.

What to Expect in this Course

  • Log in to Canvas everyday to check for Announcements and reminders.
  • Read the syllabus the first week to understand the expectations, due dates, and the reading schedule.
  • Make sure you have a reliable Internet connection and working computer.
  • If any questions arise during the semester feel free to contact me through email or if possible arrange a face-to-face meeting through Zoom.

Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

Veterans Resource Center
