Introduction
Greetings to all in class. I am your professor Mark W. Capehart and aI land to welcome you all to History 120, US history with an emphasis on women. This is a brief letter to tell all of you a bit about the class, the instructor and the expectations for passing said class. First let me just give some basic facts. This class will cover the entire spectrum of US history looking at the roles played by and the accomplishments of women during this time period. Though this course is online I still expect and require research and interaction with your peers as well as will your instructor. Now a bit about me. I have taught at various levels, from Junior High through college, for about 30 years. I also have extensive experience in media production working behind the camera on everything from horror films to documentaries.
Course Description
Now on to some more detailed information about grades and other info. The course will consist of the following elements: 5 quizzes based on time period we are studying 5 essays based on major concepts and social trends of women’s history. There is also a midterm, a research element that I will describe in class and, of course, the final exam. The breakdown of the points and the structure of the research can be found in the syllabus. I heartily encourage everyone to read the syllabus thoroughly and often. About 90% of all the questions I am asked during the semester have answers that could be found in the syllabus so always check there first. One thing that I must mention is that all of you need to be sure to give yourselves plenty of time to finish the assignments and exams. Too many people wait till the last minute to start these and it shows on the work if they manage to get the work in at all. Be certain to allot the same amount of time for this class as you would an onsite class.
