Introduction

This is a synchronous course that will meet online via Canvas.  Students will be required to login to Canvas each day the class is scheduled to meet, watch the daily lecture videos, post questions and/or comments in discussion boards, and complete daily assignments.  Exams and quizzes will be completed in Canvas also.

Course Description

This course examines circular and trigonometric functions and their inverses, identities, trigonometric equations, solutions of triangles, complex numbers, vectors, and applications.

What to Expect in this Course

All material for the course is accessed through Canvas.  Each day that new material is covered, students will be expected to watch the lecture videos and complete the associated daily assignments.  Questions about the material should be posted in appropriate discussion boards during class time.  Exams and quizzes must also be completed during the scheduled class time on the days they are assigned.  Late submissions of any work will not be accepted unless there is a valid reason.  All due dates will be specified in the course syllabus.

Types of Assessments

Assessments will include daily assignments, quizzes relating to the homework assignments, four exams covering 1-2 chapters each, and a cumulative final exam on the last day the course meets.

"Trigonometry" by Coburn and Herdlick (2nd edition).  ISBN: 9781308278766.  Please note that this is not a ZTC textbook.  Purchasing or renting a copy of the textbook will be necessary.

Other Relevant Course Information

Students wishing to add the class must contact the instructor directly via email.  Add authorizations will be provided on the first day the course meets, provided that space is available.  Students will also be required to login to Canvas the first day the class meets to complete the first day's material.  Failure to do so may result in being dropped from the course.

Management of Stress and Mental Health

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.

Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.

Veterans Resource Center

The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
