Introduction
This is a face-to-face course that meets at the Valencia campus. In-person attendance is mandatory. There is a Canvas page available for this course where students can access the syllabus, announcements, lecture notes, and grades. However, all coursework (including homework, group work, and exams) must be submitted on paper and in person. No online submissions are permitted.
Course Description
This course presents linear and non-linear functions, conics, exponential and logarithmic functions, matrices, complex numbers, theory of equations, sequences, and series.
What to Expect in this Course
During the lecture, new material will be presented by the instructor. The lecture notes presented in class will be made available in Canvas after each class meeting. A daily group work assignment will also be given after the lecture has concluded. This assignment must be completed and submitted during class time.
There will be five exams given throughout the semester, plus a cumulative final exam on the last day of the term. Homework from the textbook is also assigned and must be submitted on paper the same day as the exam.
Types of Assessments
As stated above, there will be daily group work assignments which must be completed and submitted by the end of each class meeting. There will be five exams and five homework assignments related to the material from the textbook. There will also be a cumulative final exam on the last day of the term. The exams and the final will all be proctored in person. The homework must be submitted on paper in person. No online submissions are permitted.

The textbook for this course is a zero-cost (ZTC) open educational resource (OER) available from OpenStax. It can be downloaded for free at the following website:

Other Relevant Course Information
Students who do not attend the first class meeting will be dropped from the roster to make room for students on the waitlist. Students wishing to add the course must attend on the first day as well. If room is available, the instructor will provide an add authorization at that time.

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

Veterans Resource Center
The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
