Introduction

Hello dear students,

My name is Juliana Yankey. I have been an adjunct instructor at College of Canyons (COC) for the past 6 years. I have taught Math 075, Math 140-Honor and regular Math 140 courses. I also have taught Math 083-Geometry, Math 060-Alebra and Math 58 and Math 90/Math 140-Intro Statistics. This Fall Semester, I am teaching Math-140-Honors and Math-140. Course Description

Examines statistical methods including exploratory data analysis, sampling, estimation, hypothesis testing, correlation, regression, probability, and computer-based statistical software. Honors work includes expanded assignments involving critical analysis of peer-reviewed journals and primary scientific literature. UC credit limitation: ECON-291, MATH-140, MATH-140H, MATH-140X, PSYCH-104, and SOCI-137 combined, maximum credit one course.

HONORS CLASS. Enrollment in the course is limited to students who have been accepted into the COC Honors Program https://www.canyons.edu/academics/honors . In-person meetings for this class section depend on LA County Dept. of Health permission. If restrictions do not allow in-person class, this class section may be delivered OnlineLIVE via Zoom during required scheduled times. You will log onto Zoom through Canvas. Students will be notified via email if changes are required. Refund Deadline Date 09/01/24

What to expect in class: The students are expected to do weekly assignments, and discussions entry based on Article reading.

This course required a computer, internet, webcam and Canvas/Zoom during scheduled times.

Types of Assessments

Types of Assessments: All the exams must be taken inside the classroom at Valencia campus during the schedule times as specified in the syllabus, discussions boards posting will be posted on canvas under Discussions, Written Projects will be submitted in the classroom at Valencia campus on the specified due dates. Regular written assignments will be posted under the Assignments on canvas. You can submit your assignment responses in canvas under the Assignments. Or you can submit your assignment responses in class during the face-to-face class meeting.

Software: This course requires free computer-based Software: StatKey (required) and Statcato (recommended and optional). Details in the Syllabus.

Other Relevant Course Information

Attendance is required. Missing too many classes may result in bad grades or being dropped for excessive absences.

If you can’t make it to confer zoom meeting on August 20, 2024, which is the first day of class, email me before the first day of class to avoid being dropped from the course.

Participation during the canvas confer zoom meetings is encouraged.

Management of Stress and Mental Health

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). The phone number is 661-362-3259 that you can call 24/7. You can also e mail for an appointment at StudentHealthCenter@canyons.edu. At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.

Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.

Veterans Resource Center

The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
