Introduction

Hello, I am Professor Larsen. I have been in the manufacturing industry for over 38 years. My work experience consists of Aero space, Additive manufacturing, Mechanical design, Process Manufacturing engineer, Manufacturing, and Special Effects. As a process engineer, if worked closely and trained multiple quality inspectors in the proper techniques required to inspect parts and determine the viability of out of spec parts for rework or scrap. This will enable me to share this knowledge to students that are interested in learning these skills.

Course Description

Explores the principles, techniques, and devices used within today’s dimensional metrology fields including industrial measurement and instruments such as gage blocks, steel rules, calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers, dial indicators, and height gauges. Covers equipment principles, measuring techniques, and best practices for the use of dimensional measuring equipment.

 

What to Expect in this Course

This is a 5-week course with the lectures on-line and the labs will be in person at the ATC center. There will be daily reading assignments in the Amatrol content which will be required for each lecture which will cover each lesson. (A web cam with a microphone, a web browser and computer that is Amtrol compliant are required.) System Requirements (learnamatrol.com) After the lecture we will meet in the lab and go over hand-on assignment and problems to be solved using modern measurements tools.

Types of Assessments

Multiple online pre-quizzes and content quizzes will be given throughout the duration of the class. A final exam will be given at the end of the class including a hands-on demonstration of the proficiency what you learned using the measuring equipment.    

Textbook Information

All the course content is accessed through the Amatrol web portal. There is no specific workbook for this course, it is an on-line and in person interactive course.

Veterans Resource Center
