Introduction
Greetings! My name is Raquel Armendariz and I have been a professional in the field of education for over 20 years. In this course, you will learn what it means to be a critical member of a support team for students. The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays 4PM-6PM via Zoom and you may have assignments to complete asynchronously between class meetings. We will spend time discussing various scenarios, sharing our experiences (for those of you already in that position), and talking about the various challenges and joys of working in a public school classroom.
complete both courses (NC.EDUC-003 and NC. EDUC-004) and earn a Certificate of Completion.

Explores strategies used by instructional aides to create a positive learning environment, including supporting independent work, keeping the student engaged, supporting positive behavioral interventions, and facilitating instruction

What to Expect in this Course
Identify the roles and responsibilities of an instructional aide, while also developing strategies used by instructional aides to create a positive learning environment. Topics include supporting independent work, keeping the student engaged, supporting positive behavioral interventions, facilitating instruction, and collaborating and communicating with students, teachers, and parents. This is a course that will cover the various roles and responsibilities of instructional aides who support student behavior and learning in various educational settings.
This class is offered as noncredit. All noncredit courses are graded as Pass (P) or No Pass (NP).
Students must participate actively during our OnlineLive Zoom meetings, complete assignments, contribute to discussion boards, and pass the weekly quizzes.

This class is offered as noncredit. All noncredit courses are graded as Pass (P) or No Pass (NP) Detailed information can be found on Canvas. To receive a "Pass" grade for this course, participants are encouraged to:
- Fully participate in class discussions
- Watch all videos
- Complete assignments and quizzes
- Earn at least 70% of the total points.
Grade Breakdown:
• Pass (P) = 70 - 100%
• No Pass (NP) = Less than 70%

Management of Stress and Mental Health
Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). The phone number is 661-362-3259 that you can call 24/7. You can also e mail for an appointment at StudentHealthCenter@canyons.edu. At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.
Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.
You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.
Veterans Resource Center
The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
