Nursing 236 - Maternal Child Nursing - Rachael Houghton
|Course:||Maternal Child Nursing|
Hello! I have been teaching in the nursing dept. at COC since 2008. My bedside nursing experience includes general pediatrics, Pediatric hematology and oncology, NICU, post partum and Adult medical surgical nursing. This course is very heavy and fast paced as it includes two courses (pediatrics and maternal/newborn nursing). The 8 weeks of this course fly by!
This course will cover topics related to growth and development of a child, nursing care of the prenatal woman, intrapartal woman, post partal woman, newborn, child and adolescent. Care of the healthy patient as well as those with complications will be discussed. Application of the content learned in lecture will be applied during clinical experiences, virtual simulations and in person simulations.
What to Expect in this Course
There is a great deal of reading in this class. An in depth orientation letter will be given to you closer to the start of this course. The first week of class is the busiest as we have lecture, clinical orientation, clinical and our skills lab day. We will be meeting on campus and may occasionally meet online, so having the ability to connect to Zoom would be important. There will be 2 midterms, 2 final exams, one on campus simulation, virtual simulations, one on campus preschool visitation and assignment, and Kaplan focused and integrated exams.
Types of Assessments
Students will take the midterms, final exams and integrated Kaplan tests in class in a proctored environment with a provided laptop.
