Hello, my name is Kristi Miura and I will be your Instructor for Nursing 045 - welcome to basic EKG interpretation. I am a full time Nursing Instructor for COC and continue to work as an ICU nurse.  I love teaching students about the electrical system of the heart! This letter will give you a basic overview of the course and how it will function. 

This class is a hybrid class that will feature both Online and In-person deliveries. 

Course Description

Presents Basic EKG interpretation including basic principles, normal sinus rhythm, and dysrhythmias of focal origin and rhythm blocks.  Designed for practicing nurses, student nurses and those seeking to become a monitor technician. Strong understanding of anatomy and physiology is essential for success in this course.  COC’s online courses are held in the learning management system called Canvas, which you can access at https://coc.instructure.com using the same login and password that you use for “My Canyons”.

What to Expect in this Course

You should expect to participate through Canvas weekly and attend the live lecture in order to keep up with the course material. I will post videos of lectures, along with lecture slides and summary pages for each chapter. We will also have required weekly in-person sessions where you will review, practice the rhythms, and take exams.  Additionally, the course will have weekly assignments, on-line quizzes and a cumulative final.

Other Relevant Course Information

You must be prepared for this course with the hardware and software that is required. I expect that you have consistent access to reliable internet/wifi and a computer with the minimum requirements to run Canvas. You must be able to use Canvas. I will communicate all class updates through Canvas. It is VERY important that you check Canvas daily, and/or check that your Canvas settings will email you when a new announcement or conversation is posted. Click on your Account, then Notifications. I recommend choosing the check mark for announcements and conversation messages.

This course can be accessed on the first day of class via Canvas at https://coc.instructure.com. Log into Canvas using your CanyonsID single sign-on:

  • CanyonsID Username is your COC student email address (Ex: username@my.canyons.edu)
