Introduction

I'm your instructor, Baz Here, an educator and a multidisciplinary artist with a deep passion for the medium of photography. My journey in both education and the arts has been driven by a fascination with power of the single photographic frame, one moment frozen in time.

In my classroom, I am committed to creating a safe and open environment where respect and openness are the foundations of our learning community. I believe that in such a space, we can freely explore, question, and grow, both as individuals and as a collective. My goal is not only to impart knowledge but to foster a collaborative and inclusive atmosphere where every voice is valued, and every perspective is given equal respect.

Course Description

Introduces the fundamental concepts, terminology, and techniques of photography and camera RAW, including the theory and basic principles of image correction and print technologies. It is recommended that students provide a digital SLR camera capable of manual exposure and adjustment.

What to Expect in this Course

Students will watch online video lectures weekly and participate in online class discussion threads in response to weekly reading material. Students do not need to acquire any equipment for this class, but it is strongly recommended that students have their own camera. If that is not feasible, a camera can be rented on a weekly basis.

Types of Assessments

Students will complete a series of practical assignments, including a portfolio showcasing exposure techniques, and peer-reviewed exercises to apply their skills. Interactive quizzes will test their knowledge, and reflective learning journals will track their progress and challenges. The final assessment will be a capstone project, where students execute a photo session with detailed planning. Participation in discussion boards, with focused prompts, will also be crucial for evaluation, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the camera, the accompanying post-production software and their application.
