I hope you are as excited about this course as much as I am. We are going to learn about different subjects within today's business world. This course is going to help you have a stronger understanding of the day to day of different business subjects and how it is applicable in your everyday life. I am also a ground professor at College of the Canyons.

Course Description

We are going to learn about importance of many key components of business in today's business world. This course provides a multidisciplinary examination of how culture, society, economic systems, legal, international, political, financial institutions, and human behavior interact to affect a business organization's policy and practices within the U.S. and a global society. Focuses on how these influences impact the primary areas of business including: organizational structure and design; leadership; human resource management; organized labor practices; marketing; organizational communication; technology; entrepreneurship; legal, accounting, and financial practices; the stock and securities market; and therefore, how they affect a business' ability to achieve its organizational goals.

What to Expect in this Course

Taking an online course is different from taking an on-ground course from a technological perspective. You will self pace within Canvas, which will provide you due dates, COC's Learning Management System. The syllabus will guide you and provide you due dates, as well as the modules within the Canvas course. All students must login to the Introduction to Business course on Canvas on the first day of the semester and complete your Student Introduction Discussion #1 to avoid being dropped as a no show per the school policy. Thereafter, students must routinely login to Canvas throughout the entire course (usually twice a week), to read class materials, obtain assignments, read announcements, and communicate with me and other students. This entire Course is in CANVAS. All assignments; discussions, homework, exams and projects are to be completed and turned into Canvas. I send class updates and notifications through the Announcements tab within our class shell, so please enable and check this area.

You can access Canvas by typing cv.canyons.edu into a web browser. Once there, you can read and follow the instructions for logging into Canvas.

You can also access Canvas user guides, tutorials, and helpful tips for navigating and using Canvas. You must understand Canvas to succeed in this course. I strongly urge you to read the Canvas user guides and view the tutorials if you are unfamiliar with how Canvas works. For any Canvas-related questions or technical assistance, please call the Canvas Student Support line at (661) 362-3344 during college business hours, or (877) 889-9052 for support at all other times. You may also e-mail Canvas Support Services at cvsupport@canyons.edu.

You can personalize Canvas by adding a photo as an avatar that will appear in various areas of the course. I do not require that your avatar be a photo of you. Rather, you may select any appropriate picture. Remember that your avatar will display on Canvas for all of your courses, not only this one. The way you find this CANVAS Course is to login into CANVAS.

  • After you Login, you should automatically be on the Dashboard page.
