Nikki Mehrpoo graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Northridge, California in 1994 with a B.S. in Political Science. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law, Malibu, CA in 1997 and was admitted to The State Bar of California that same year. She is the first and only dual-certified legal specialist in Workers’ Compensation and Immigration Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.  

On September 1, 2020, Judge Mehrpoo was appointed as a Workers’ Compensation Administrative Law Judge.   Ms. Mehrpoo has served the workers' compensation community as an Applicant Attorney, Defense Attorney and Judge.  She is now serving as a Workers' Compensation Arbitrator for the Division of Workers' Compensation.  

Ms. Mehrpoo is also a full-time Professor of Law at West Los Angeles College and a nationally and internationally recognized distinguished speaker/lecturer in immigration and workers' compensation law.  She has shared her valuable insight in Japan for Weekly Toyo Keizai Magazine, in France on France 5, for Iranian Radio on KIRN 670 AM, and in Denmark on Ekstra Bladet, as well as Business Insurance and WCAuthority.com analyzing high-profile cases, court decisions and legal issues. She has served as an editor and contributing author of several legal publications for the American Immigration Lawyers Association, including Navigating the Fundamentals of Immigration Law (2016–17 Ed.) and Immigration Practice Toolbox, Third and Fourth Editions.  

Ms. Mehrpoo is a past President of the Iranian American Lawyers Association, former Commissioner of the California State Bar Workers’ Compensation Law Advisory Commission, former member of the Workers’ Compensation Executive Committee of the California Lawyers Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association Small Firm and Sole Practitioner Executive Committee and the Board of Directors for the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association (CAAA).  

Course Description

Workers' Compensation in CA.  Explores the laws and procedures unique to the California Workers’ Compensation system from the occurrence of a work-related injury or illness to the final resolution of the claim.

Management of Stress and Mental Health

Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). The phone number is 661-362-3259 that you can call 24/7. You can also e mail for an appointment at StudentHealthCenter@canyons.edu. At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.

Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.

Veterans Resource Center

The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
