Welcome to Introduction to Psychology Online at College of the Canyons. My name is Dr. Allison Evans, and I will be your instructor throughout this course. How do I access the course?
This course will be available on COC's Canvas system beginning on the calendar day the class is scheduled to start at 8:00 am. What to Expect in this Course
Class officially begins on the MONDAY, October 14, 2024. You can and will be DROPPED from the class if you do not log in and complete the introduction assignment in Canvas by 11:59 pm on WEDNESDAY, October 16, 2024. No exceptions will be made. Completing your introduction will serve as proof of login and involvement and hold your seat in the class.
PLEASE NOTE: IT IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY TO DROP YOU FROM THE COURSE. IF YOU FAIL TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS AND DO NOT DROP THE COURSE ON YOUR OWN ACCORD, YOU WILL RECEIVE AN âFâ or an âFWâ IN THE COURSE.
Types of Assessments
All quizzes and exams are taken online using Honorlock. All exams will be given on specific dates noted in the syllabus. All assignments can be completed at home within the given timeframes. The course syllabus provides all due dates. Late or partial work is not accepted. Discussion and written assignemnts as well as Revel (textbook) HW Assignments.

Other Relevant Course Information
As noted above, your work for this class will be completed using Canvas, an online course management system. Although not a requirement, it will be beneficial if you are familiar with Internet browser software; Firefox works best with Canvas. If you are still determining your skill level and whether or not you are ready to take a class online, you may visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/onlinereadinessquiz and take the online readiness quiz.
Due to the fact that this is an online course, it is going to move very quickly. You will need to be both prepared and ready for the challenge. In addition to the exams, you will have online assignments and quizzes. You will need to pay close attention to the due dates of these assignments. All assignments are DUE BY 11:59 PM on the assigned due date. Students must log in to the course website at least four times weekly. I expect students to invest a minimum of 10-12 hours per week into this course (time invested will vary depending upon the semester and overall course length). The best way to contact me before class starts is by emailing Allison.Evans@canyons.edu. Once the class starts, I will use the messages feature in Canvas. During the traditional workweek, I will respond within 24 hours.

Online Counseling
The Counseling Department offers appointments online. You can schedule an appointment by visiting the Online Counseling website. Counselors can help you map out a plan to reach your educational goals as well as advise you on course selection and registration.
Management of Stress and Mental Health
Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). The phone number is 661-362-3259 that you can call 24/7. You can also e mail for an appointment at StudentHealthCenter@canyons.edu. At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.
Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.
You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.
Veterans Resource Center
The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
