¡Hola! my name is Claudia Rocío Colville, and I will facilitate your learning experience this term in this online/remote distance education language course. Most students do very well in my courses because they are focused and determined to complete the coursework. They also are resourceful and are always on top of their weekly work. It is crucial to get started reading the first chapter, develop a study routine, and maintain good communication with your instructor.
Spanish 102 is the second semester of College level Spanish. It covers vocabulary and grammatical patterns necessary for comprehension and production of spoken and written Spanish through a task-based approach to help students develop communicative competence in all four skills areas (listening, reading, speaking, and writing). An important goal is to provide a cross-cultural understanding of Latin American societies. As you study the text, learn about the diversity and rich cultures of the Spanish-speaking people and share the learning experience with other students. CSU/UC 5 Credits.
What to Expect in this Course
Students must log in and complete the self-introductory discussion posting and syllabus quiz by 11:00 p.m. on the first day of class to avoid being dropped from the course due to the college's “No Show” policy. The content is delivered in Canvas modules, requiring weekly completion. You will need to log in to Canvas at least four-five times per week (more likely six days a week) to keep up with postings and to check for updates from your instructor.
It is imperative to read your email @my.canyons.edu daily and keep updated on the communication. Missing the instructor’s emails will not be considered a valid excuse. View the class program -- attached to the syllabus -- carefully on the first day of class, and make sure you won’t miss deadlines. The course has weekly deadlines on Sundays. Additionally, there are two oral interview exams on the midterm and final weeks. Live Lectures will be offered weekly, time and date TBA.
Types of Assessments
There will be a total of one to two asynchronous exams per week in MindTap. Throughout the semester, there will be three synchronous activities: one oral diagnostic; and two oral interviews (Zoom) - Midterm Oral, and Final Oral. Lastly, there will be one comprehensive final written exam on the last week of class.
NOTE: The written exam will be proctored, it requires a computer with camera and microphone. It cannot be taken on any other device.

Computer with internet access. Make sure your microphone is working properly. Voice recording activities are an essential part of this course. Observation: Tablets, apps, and other mobile devices can be used to view or read content, but assignments only can be performed on a computer.
