Hello students! Welcome to Water 151! My name is Silvia Lanza, and I will be your instructor for this course.  This is a core course for a career in water treatment and distribution.  This is a fast-pace 8-week class with a focus on advanced water treatment technologies.

Course Description

This course examines advanced topics in conventional surface water treatment processes and disinfection, as well as non-conventional treatment processes.  Completion of this course will assist you in the preparation for the Grade T3 and T4 Water Treatment Plant Operator’s Certificate examination given by the State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water. 

What to Expect in this Course

Students have the option of attending class in person at the Canyon Country Campus or online via Zoom platform. This class is not self-paced instruction and the weekly lecture meetings are required.  All course materials, including the textbook and Zoom meeting information will be provided in Canvas. Students are responsible for checking the course Canvas materials and meeting all deadlines for homework, assignments, discussions, and exams.  Students are also required to review the self-study materials posted weekly in Canvas. You can expect an average of 6-8 hours per week time commitment to complete assignments in addition to the weekly 3-hour lecture.

Types of Assessments

All assignments, quizzes and discussion board instructions will be provided online through Canvas. There will be weekly homework assignments, quizzes, a discussion paper, one midterm exam, and a cumulative final exam.
