What Kind of Organization is SCEEC?

  • SCEEC is a College of the Canyons initiative whose aim is outreach to K-14 to help promote environmental literacy in Santa Clarita Valley. Its members are composed of teachers, school administrators, business entities, industry professionals, as well as concerned citizens in our valley. It is a public-private partnership, a non-profit organization with funding support from our business community as well as various entities on College of the Canyons Campus. It was founded in April, 2012, by a group of citizen in our valley who saw the need to form such a consortium to serve the teachers and learners in our Valley. We do not have a specific political agenda. Our main purpose is to raise environmental awareness in our valley, to promote opportunities where our community members can learn more about the environment, and to conduct events where students and learners can foster their knowledge for environmental sustainability and develop skills needed to live a sustainable life-style. Ultimately, we want our K-14 students to grow up loving nature and living a sustainable life-style in which they consider the health of the environment in their daily decisions and actions.
