Filipino/a/x American History Month

October is Filipino American History Month (FAHM), which was established in 1988 and commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipino/a/x in the continental U.S. On October 18, 1587, "Luzones Indios" came ashore from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Esperanza, landing at what is now Morro Bay, California. During this time, we honor and recognize the history, contributions, and heritage of Filipino Americans. This community has positively impacted our agricultural work, played a role in the U.S labor movement, has influenced art, culture, and entertainment, and introduced us to delicious cuisine.

The Filipino American National Historical society (FANHS) has set this year’s theme of  From Quotas to Communities: Filipino American Migration and Movement. We encourage you to take some time this month to reflect, celebrate, and learn from the culture shared by Filipino/a/x Americans.
