2024-2025 Promise Students
Welcome to the 2024/2025 Canyons Promise First Year Cohort.
Canyons Promise is a comprehensive college student success program that will help not only with the financial side of attending college, but also with the day to day responsibilities of being a college student. We are here to support you as you navigate your way to success and you couldn't be in better hands! Our Canyons Promise Team is made up of faculty and staff who have a common goal: your success! And we will be here every step of the way.
Speaking of steps, your first step is to spend some time reviewing the items that we've included in the following accordion menu. You will find important information about our program, Summer Orientation, Counseling services, fall registration, and more. Please review the materials and jot down any questions that may come up. You can reach out to us for clarification anytime.
Again, we are so happy to have you on-board and we look forward to working with you. Your success is our success so we are going to do our best to make sure you achieve your goals!

Canvas is the College's learning management system to support online learning and teaching. It is also widely used for on-ground courses, too. It allows faculty to post grades, information, and assignments online.
Though Canyons Promise is a "program" of the college and not a "course," we use Canvas as the primary source with which to communicate important information to our first and second year cohorts. You will also hear this referred to as the "Canyons Promise Canvas Shell."
Once you are registered for your fall classes, you will find that you have a "Canyons Promise Year One 2024/25" tile on your Canvas Dashboard.
Again, as this is the primary location for the exchange of information between us and you, it is IMPERATIVE that you check-in regularly for updates, announcements, deadlines, discussions, and more! The Canvas shell will include links to access the Promise counselors for drop-in appointments and for scheduling one-hour appointments. You will be using these links a lot so make sure you know where to find them!
When you attend your Summer Orientation, you will upload your REQUIRED Canyons Promise Contract during the orientation.
We cannot emphasize enough how critical to your success our Canyons Promise shell will be. The shell is constantly updated by our team and notifications are sent on a regular basis. Check out the Canvas Student Guides provided by the COC Online Education Office.

You are now a registered college student at College of the Canyons. As such, you will be held to certain standards which may, until now, sound unnecessary. One of these standards is the consistent use of your @my.canyons.edu email address. Moving forward with this program, we will NOT respond to emails sent from private email accounts. All email correspondence with Canyons Promise, other departments on campus, and with your instructors MUST come from your college email address or via the messaging system in Canvas.
As we've mentioned, you may email us at Promise@canyons.edu anytime you have a question. Please make sure to give us a brief description of your question in the "Subject" line and expand on that question more thoroughly in the body of your email. You MUST include your full name and your College of the Canyons Student ID number in your signature. This is the only way we can confirm your identity and look into your academic record. Remembering this step will save everyone the back and forth of several emails to get the information.
You MUST be willing to check your Canvas regularly for announcements and updates as well as your college email inbox. If you miss a deadline, an assignment, or a request for information because you did not check your email, you will have no recourse.
Finally, make sure that your contact information is up to date. This information can be updated in your My Canyons and MAP profiles or you may contact the Admissions & Records Office and let them know of the change.
