Below is an overview of our summer requirements:
CANYONS PROMISE BOOT CAMP
The Canyons Promise Boot Camp will consist of two online courses offered through our School of Personal and Professional Learning. The courses are designed to prepare you for life as a college student by giving you access to, and instruction on how to use, educational tools and resources that will make your life much easier. We have found that students in our program have greater success when given the opportunity to hone these skills before jumping into the rigors of academic life.
Our boot camps will be offered 100% online via Canvas (our learning management system). We know that you have summer plans and that is why we are offering dozens of boot camp options that begin as early as June 8th and continue through July 18th. The two courses are scheduled as a cohort which means that you will take the courses with the same group of students and with the same instructor. We believe teaching the courses in this way gives new college students an excellent opportunity to begin creating their social and academic support group at College of the Canyons. The two courses will require a total of 16 hours of coursework to be completed online. You will be required to log into Canvas daily to complete work and will have one required 60 minute ZOOM meeting with your instructor during your instruction week. Each instructor will provide details about meeting times to their students.
You can begin registering for a boot camp on your assigned Summer 2020 registration date/time. This date/time can be found in your My Canyons account. If you have not submitted your summer enrollment application to COC, you will not have a registration date just yet. You will need to submit your summer application as soon as possible so a date may be assigned to you.
Once you register for your boot camp courses, IF you get the below "warning" message, DO NOT WORRY! You can disregard that and continue with your registration.
- NC.CGSL-001-XXXXX - Warning: Student's academic level doesn't match the course.
- NC.CGSL-002-XXXXX - Warning: Student's academic level doesn't match the course.
CANYONS PROMISE ORIENTATION
We were planning to do in-person orientations; however, we have worked very hard to analyze what is best for our students, staff and faculty during these times. We have decided to shift from our original plan to an online video and contract that you will complete within your Promise Boot Camp courses. There is no additional sign up to attend an orientation.
Within your boot camp courses, you will be provided with our Orientation video and Canyons Promise Contract. The video provides details about our Canyons Promise Contract that you will be signing and submitting, plus provides other important details and information about the program. All students will be required to watch the Orientation Video and submit a completed contract within your boot camp course.
WELCOME DAY
Welcome Day will take place on August 14th, just prior to the start of the fall semester. The day is being planned now, so stay tuned to your My Canyons email. We will send you information as the date gets closer.
