Artist Talk: September 25, 2:30 PM
Angel Divina is a trans Mexican-American artist based in Bakersfield, CA. Inspiredby
the traditional colors and flavors of Durango Mexico, her practice celebrates ourrelationship
with food (and all things picante) through the marriage of domestic scienceand studio
painting. Divina earned her BFA from the California Institute of the Arts, has been
a guest lecturer at the Bakersfield Museum of Art, a muralist for the ArtsCouncil
of Kern, and has had numerous exhibitions throughout Los Angeles and SouthernCalifornia.
Her ongoing "chile" series disrupts the distinction between folk and fineart by bringing
the rich history of domestic crafts to the gallery space. Divina iscurrently developing
recipes for her upcoming cookbook, which will reflect the tastesand memories from
her childhood.
