Welcome! I’m Mercedes McDonald, your instructor. I am a commercial illustrator / fine artist with degrees in painting and drawing.
I’ve designed assignments that emphasize concept development, style, and visual communication for use in advertising, editorial print media, and various publications. Projects are designed to meet professional standards.

What to Expect in this Course
This 16 week 3 unit Online Live Distance Learning/ Remote Instruction course with mandatory Zoom meetings.
Access to a computer/tablet with a camera, scanner, printer and reliable internet are all requirements for this class.
Students are expected to spend a minimum of 6 hours outside of class on assignments.
There are 4 main assignments and a sketchbook with weekly entries required.
Each assignment is broken down into sections with specific due dates.
All work will be uploaded to Canvas.
Class time is used to work in studio with under the guidance of your instructor via Zoom.
Students are expected to attend class during class hours.
Attendance will be taken.

This is a visual art class. Students will need a computer/pad with a camera and full access to a printer during class hours.
This course can be accessed on the first day of class via Canvas at https://coc.instructure.com. Log into Canvas using your CanyonsID single sign-on:
