What to Expect in this Course

This course requires considerable time commitment and organization. Although you may set your own hours, students must stay active in the course and communicate regularly with peers and instructor. Students should also check their student e-mails and announcements in Canvas regularly.

The course requires, Microsoft Word 2016 or higher, Connect Code (included with the Loose-Leaf textbook from COC Bookstore or purchased at the McGraw-Hill website), a reliable browser, and storage space such as your computer, a flash drive or Cloud space. Assignments must be performed on a computer; iPad, Chromebook, tablets etc. are not ideal and may prove to be problematic.

Students will read the assigned chapters and complete their corresponding assignments using Connect, the Application-Based Activities (ABA), the Medisoft Database Program, MS Word, and Canvas Discussion Board.

Types of Assessments

Students will read the assigned chapters and complete their corresponding assignments using Connect, the Application-Based Activities (ABA), the Medisoft Database Program, MS Word, and Canvas Discussion Board. Some chapters will include ‘patient’ record keeping. Students are expected to complete the ones that are assigned and submit them for grading through Connect.

In addition to chapter assignments, there will be 2 Simulations. Students will listen to the Simulation audio and update appointment books, mail logs, calling logs, and patient files. Students can expect to generate memos, patient referral letters, requests for diagnoses and files, receipts, chart notes, etc.

All assignments and exams will be done in Connect. There are no assignments to be submitted through Canvas.

Many assignments as well as both Simulations rely on listening to audio that is provided in Connect.
