Introduction
Have you ever considered a career in carpentry? here is your chance to further your knowledge in the trade while working towards a career in carpentry. College of the Canyons has partnered with The United Brotherhood of Carpenters to offer a Pre-Apprenticeship in Carpentry. You'll have the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of Carpentry while earning college credits as well as earning portable credits with NCCER (National Center for Construction Education & Research) These credentials are tracked through NCCER's national registry system allows organizations and companies to track the qualifications of their craft professionals and/or check the qualifications of possible new hires.
Course Description
Continues the study of carpentry with a focus on wall framing techniques, roofing applications, and exterior finishing applications.
What to Expect in this Course
This class will be an in-person Lab and Lecture on the Canyon Country Campus as scheduled.
Types of Assessments
The course will consist of a one-hour lecture and go into the lab where the students will have the opportunity to build using the trades leading tools and techniques. Along with the lectures, labs there will be in person proctored exams on computers through NCCER.
Textbook Information
The textbook used in the class will be the NCCER construction Technology 4th Edition Construction Technology Trainee Guide (pearson.com) also available at the student bookstore.
A code for the for the digital book will need to be purchased for this course. The digital copy of the book must be purchased in order to work in the Pearson MyLab&Mastering inside of Canvas. If you would like a physical copy of the book, you will still need the digital copy and in that case a bundle can be purchased that includes the physical book along with the digital downloadable book to be able to work in MyLab&Mastering.

Management of Stress and Mental Health
Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.
Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.
You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.
Veterans Resource Center
The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
