Introduction
Welcome to CONST-108 – Introduction to Construction Inspection and Codes. In this course you will apply knowledge of codes, regulations, and standards to a construction project and develop a plan to achieve quality assurance in the field through plan review and project construction inspection.
Course Description
Introduces the function, responsibilities, authority, and technical requirements of quality assurance of construction projects using California’s building codes as a basis.
What to Expect in this Course
CONST-108 is a 2 unit, full semester (16 week) course that traditionally meets once a week for 2 hours. Therefore, the online version of this course will be structured in a similar manner with new content and assignments being published at the beginning of the week, and due at the end of the same week. The course will be taught 100% online (no live meetings) via Canvas https://coc.instructure.com/login/canvas. Once you’ve logged into Canvas, open the course shell titled “Introduction to Construction Inspection and Codes”. All course content can be found within this shell. I will make available (publish) chapter reading assignments, in-class assignments, and homework assignments on a weekly basis – see syllabus (in Canvas) for details. Quizzes and exams will be taken within Canvas as well. Feel free to email me with questions. Have a great semester.

Textbook Information
FREE On-line version of the 2019 California Building Code, Title 24, Published by International Code Council. Link to free on-line version will be provided in the course shell on the first week of class.

The Counseling Department offers appointments online. You can schedule an appointment by visiting the Online Counseling website. Counselors can help you map out a plan to reach your educational goals as well as advise you on course selection and registration.
Management of Stress and Mental Health
Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. You can learn more about the broad range of confidential student services, including counseling and mental health services available on campus by visiting the Student Health & Wellness Center in the Student Services Building (across from the bookstore). At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.
Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.

Veterans Resource Center
