Course Description

Career & Life Planning introduces self-assessment tools to identify college majors and careers by clarifying interests, skills, abilities, values and personality type.  Students will examine the decision-making process, self-management, life roles and goal setting.  Includes a review of labor market trends, career research, interviewing skills, resume and cover letter writing and job search strategies.


What to Expect in this Course

Expect to participate in weekly discussions and activities. This course is all about self and career exploration. You will learn techniques and tools to help you find a meaningful career and major as well as creating goals in that direction. 

●        Understand the career planning and decision making process

●        Find a career path and/or major consistent with individual skills, values, interests, and personality style

●        Recognize the skills needed to succeed in a particular occupational field

●        Gain resume writing and interviewing skills

●        Have a better understanding of oneself


Types of Assessments

Assessments include online discussions, written reflections, group and individual presentations as well as career assessments.

We will be using Open Educational Resources (OER) materials for this course! There is no cost to you as a student, all the materials necessary for this course are FREE to you. If you wish to purchase the Counseling 110 OER text in a hard copy format, you will be able to do so in the bookstore for a small fee.OER Textbook can be found at

The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
