Introduction

Hi Everyone, this is Dilip Purohit and I will be your instructor for Math 104 - Precalculus. This is a 5-unit course that is required for students who are pursuing their academic goals in the subjects such as mathematics, science, and engineering.

As an instructor, I want to help you succeed and learn precalculus in an easy manner. It is important that you attend every class and make sincere efforts to learn the concepts. The emphasis will be on critical thinking and understanding of the concepts. You will need to keep it quite simple - stay engaged, ask questions, and complete classwork and homework assignment problems on time. The classwork and homework problems assigned will be similar to problems that would be solved in class. If you experience any difficulty while solving those problems on your own, please ask me in class and I will be happy to help.

Course Description

The course will cover topics such as equations and inequalities, functions, system of equations, conic sections, zeros of polynomial equations, trigonometry, and additional topics in preparation for calculus

What to Expect in this Course

This is an in-person class. The class will meet from 5:00 PM to 7:25 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays in Mentry Hall, Room # 240.

Please attend each and every class - I will cover relevant topics and solve problems in class. There will be classwork and homework assignments - the problems will be similar to the problems that I will be solving in class. You will be expected to submit the assignments in canvas and take the exams including the final.

A typical weekly schedule:

Attend lectures. Make sincere efforts to learn the material. Complete classwork and homework assignments. If you run into any difficulty while solving problems, please reach out to me and I will be happy to help.

Time Commitment:

Every student is expected to make a time commitment for this course every week. Besides attending class meetings in person, you should set aside time for completing homework assignments, and some additional hours for learning the material. You are expected to submit homework assignments every week on Mondays and classwork assignments during class time. Classwork assignment problems will be similar to problems that I will be doing in class.
