Introduction
Greetings!
I have been teaching at COC for the last ten years. I have a BM degree from Cal State Northridge. I have composed and produced music for various television shows, films, and advertising. I currently operate a global music publishing administration company focused on collecting rights worldwide for composers and music publishers.
Course Description
Music for Film, TV, and New Media focuses on how to compose and produce music to picture in ProTools. In this course you will learn about MIDI, Digital Audio, working with loops and sampling, Live Recording, Spotting in Video, Mixing, and ultimately bouncing/rendering your music to the video. On the music side, you will also learn orchestration, how modes will affect tone, music theory, ear training, and much more. While this course is focused on writing music to picture, it does cross over to general post-production workflows.
What to Expect in this Course
On completion of this course, students will be able to spot time-coded video into their session, choose correct harmony and instrumentation, compose, mix, and export the completed project to a Quicktime video.

Module 5 - Working with Video, Spotting, Modes, Orchestration, Styles, Bounce to Quicktime
Module 6 - Mixing, Dynamics Processing, Using a limiter on a Master Fader, creating an effects loop, automation
Types of Assessments
See syllabus for exact assessment information and the course grading policy. You will be required to complete multiple class projects as well as online quizzes / tests. Additionally, you will be expected to participate in a discussions centered around weekly topics of interest.

Management of Stress and Mental Health
Often the pressure on our students is very strong, involving academic commitments, relationships, outside jobs and family pressure to name a few. The staff and faculty of College of the Canyons are here to see you succeed academically and care about your emotional and physical health. At the Canyon Country Campus the Health Center will be in the new Student Services Building.
Also, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number is now 988. All students at COC are encouraged to enter that phone number in their cells. You can call it when you, or someone you know, is having thoughts of suicide or is in severe distress.
You can also now use the Crisis Text Line: Just text "Courage" to 741741. Someone will get back to you immediately. Its free, 24/7, and confidential.
Veterans Resource Center
The College of the Canyons Veterans Resource Center is a department within the Student Services Division at the college, created to help veterans and veteran dependents with applying to College of the Canyons, enrolling in classes, and requesting VA Education or Vocational Benefits.
