Melanie Cross, DNP, RN, PHN

Melanie Cross earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice, and her thesis project was educating healthcare providers about how to identify and care for victims of human trafficking. Melanie is an active member in several task forces that address human trafficking in her region, nation and internationally. Melanie is vice president of Gamma Tau-At-Large, Sigma the International Nursing Honor Society. She is an ambassador for HEAL Trafficking Network. Melanie has worked as a consultant for school districts, hospitals and the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. She's travelled to Thailand with Zoe International, joining in their mission to recover and care for orphans who have been sold or are at risk of being sold into human trafficking. Drawing on 26 years of nursing practice caring for the vulnerable, Melanie is a guest speaker and consultant who is always on the lookout for those who might join

Course Description

Examines the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) with an emphasis on awareness and identification. Provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to identify sexually and commercially exploited youth. An emphasis will be placed on future and current health care providers. 

What to Expect in this Course

This OnlineLIVE class will be conducted via Canvas/Zoom during scheduled times. This class is intended for current and future Healthcare Providers.

Types of Assessments

This course is pass/fail. There will be 2 in class discussions and  a written reflection.
