Introduction
Welcome to NC.CGSL 002!
I hope you are ready for an exciting semester! I want to welcome you and congratulate you for deciding to enroll in this very important class. This class is designed for students starting online learning. Some of you may be freshmen and/or continuing students and this class will help you learn how to become a successful online student. The most important thing to know is that this class is for anyone who wants to learn how to be ready for the online classroom.
I assure you that it will be a great experience. If at any time you have a question, feel lost, or need help, please let me know as I am here to support you and guide you along the way.
We will work together to learn from each other and I am sure that you will be motivated and become successful. There is a lot of support available for you.
Course Description
NC.CGSL 002 Introduces the practical strategies and skills necessary to succeed in distance education. Students will learn how to anticipate, avoid, and/or solve typical problems encountered in the distance learning environments.
What to Expect in this Course
This course will provide you with the skills necessary to be a successful online student. The goal of this course is to prepare you for the challenges of online and distance education classes by encouraging your individual initiative, confidence and motivation.
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Evaluate online equipment needs.
- Demonstrate acceptable netiquette.
- Define the terminology/ vocabulary of online courses and the internet.
- Develop skills for success in the online environment.
- Examine typical problems encountered in distance learning.
- Demonstrate competency using various online tools utilized in an online class.

Important on The First Day of Class
To avoid being dropped from this course as a No Show, you must login to the course website on Canvas and complete a discussion board activity by 11:59 p.m. on the first day of class. If you do not complete this assignment by the deadline, you will be dropped from this course. It is not enough to login to the Canvas course, you must also complete the discussion board activity to be counted as present in the course.
