Are you ready for a great OnlineLive course? I am ready and excited to get started! Welcome to English 001: Essential Reading & Writing I- OnlineLive at College of the Canyons. My name is Angeli Francois and I am so happy to be your instructor. I am excited to help you succeed. Course Description
This course is going to provide you with some exciting skills to help you become more successful in reading and writing.
Essential Reading & Writing I develops reading and writing skills by applying critical reading strategies to non-fiction texts and writing brief source-based essays.
What to Expect in this Course
Pathway to Success
We will be using “Modules” in this class and one module mimics a week of class. You will see modules that are displayed with study guides, videos, readings, discussion topics, and writing. Each new module begins on Monday of that week.
Pathway to success each week:
- Select the module for the week
- Read the study guide
- Come to the Live Zoom class to get help
- Complete the assignments in the study guide
You will need access to Canvas. No additional technology required.
Types of Assessments
Participation, Discussion Board Reflections, Reading, and Short Essay.

This course can be accessed on the first day of class via Canvas at https://coc.instructure.com. Log into Canvas using your CanyonsID single sign-on:
- CanyonsID Username is your COC student email address (Ex: username@my.canyons.edu)
